In Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant large amount of contaminated water has been generated to cool damaged reactor cores. Seawater used for the cooling is obstruction to removal of radioactive nuclides from the contaminated water. The AESJ volunteer team had prepared the radionuclide adsorption database, "Contaminated Liquid Water Treatment for Fukushima Daiichi NPS (CLWT)" and released on 15 April 2011. The database available on the AESJ-NUCE website stores more than 600 experimental adsorption ratios of cesium, strontium and iodine with zeolite and charcoal, etc. The volunteer team was initiated on 22 March with AESJ members of Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kyoto University, Kyushu University and Japan Atomic Energy Agency. The team has worked in cooperation with HITACHI, Toshiba Corporation and Organo Corporation as well as adsorbent manufacturers. The exhaustive database was prepared in one month after the nuclear accident.

Partitioning behavior of acetic C in sedimentary rock has been studied in anaerobic atomosphere condition. Addition of nitrate salt in the solution showed good correlation between increase of oncentration of C in air and decrease of concentration of nitate salts. These results suggest that respiration of nitrifying bacteria result in the transformation of C.

The presentation summarizes environmental behavior of radionuclides released by the Chernobyl accident, with an emphasis on a linkage between the soil and the aquatic environment concerning radionuclide migration. Important radiological lessons from the accident are as follows. Concerning physical and chemical behavior of radionuclides, pre-existing findings have been confirmed. This was accomplished by comparison of different radionuclides behavior, and observation of temporal change in that behavior. By using the accident derived radionuclides as markers, ecological study such as interrelationship in lake environment has been promoted. In relation to the Fukushima accident, the Chernobyl accident has provided a keen necessity to execute multi-aspect analyses of every possible countermeasures before implementation. This action can be benefited by use of decision support systems, which have been developed in Europe since the Chernobyl accident.
